Novel Writing Sprints Breakdown:
Total fingers on the keyboard time: 1 hour 26 minutes. Total words: 2,680. Words per hour: 1,870.
14:36 – I was sick as a dog yesterday. I didn’t wake up today until 13:00. A huge part of me wants to say ‘fuck it’ and go back to bed, but I’ve eaten, taken a shower, and I have coffee, so I should be able to write. Even if it is a bit slower than usual. I’d set a goal of 2,500 words a day for this week. Since I missed yesterday, I’m going to set my daily goal for today at 3,000 words.
15:09 – enough procrastination. I need a new cup of coffee, and then it’s time to start the first sprint.
22:09 – I didn’t get another writing sprint in. I’m going to get sleep and start fresh in the morning. I hit the original goal of 2,500 words, plus a few more. I’ll worry about making up the extra 2,500 from what I missed yesterday later this week.
I had to pause the timer twice. Once to get coffee, and the second time to switch to a new scene. I wrapped up a scene, and finished the setup for the next scene.
I tend to write my novels from chapter one to the end, doing flashbacks as they come up, if at all.
Finished the scene I’d been working on last sprint. I went over the timer, but that’s a good thing. I’m going to take an extra long break again and think through the next scene. It’s one of the most important to the plot, but I want to also keep it in character, and not just info dump on the reader.
I had to pause again to switch between scenes, and I went over the timer, but only by a minute. One more sprint and I should hit my goal for the day, and help make up missing yesterday. Even though I was sick, I don’t want to allow that to be an excuse for me missing my weekly goal of 17,500.
