First, I adjusted some setting inside my Dragon and ran a major training session last night.
Second, I didn’t start my first writing sprints until 15:05 for #wordmongering. Which I learned about from Ava Jae on her blog. The link is to her post where she descibes the hashtag group. It turns out I might be a better writer in the afternoons. I’ve tried waking up early in the morning between 4:00 and 6:00. I am not a morning person. I use to write late at night. 2:00 worked really well for me becuase there were no internet distractions. Social media is dead that late. The down side was by staying up until 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning, it meant I didn’t get out of bed until noon or later. Not the best way to have a social life.
Third major change I made was the incorporation of a timer. I’ve chosen to set my writing timer for 27.5 minutes, followed by a 10 minute break. Both times today, I wrote past the timer. I found that seeing the timer really puts my butt into gear, and get the words flowing. I think both times I hit ‘flow state’ within four or five miuntes of writing. At first there is a pressure from the timer, but soon that faded away and I was just writing. The words just seemed to pour out of me.
Tomorrow, I’ll wake up, eat breakfast, and try the timer again. If the word count is similar I’ll keep going. If however, the word count is lower, I’m going to put aside the writing until 14:00 and then try again. If I’ve found that my magic writing time is tea time, that would be awesome!
