Novel Writing Sprints Breakdown:
Total fingers on the keyboard time: 1 hour and 38 minutes. Total words: 2,743. Words per hour: 1,679.
12:23 – I woke up a little after 11. I’ve had breakfast and I’m on my second cup of coffee. Time to start knocking out some words, after I post to my blog. There was a glitch last night so I put it off.
12:36 – Finished uploading the post. I’ve changed where I’m writing to see if it helps me focus. I’ve also turned off my internet and placed my cell in the other room; unanimous advice from Lindsey, Joe, and Jeff last night on Science Fiction & Fantasy Marketing Podcast. (If you’ve never watched an episode you should go do that now, even if it means you stop reading this post.) The hard part with this new space, is trying to find a comfortable sitting arrangement.
13:50 – Two sprints done in one hour. I’m making some progress there at least. My words per hour are down, but that’s ok. I’m on my last cup of coffee from the French Press. It’s sad. I’m limiting myself to see if I fall asleep better tonight. Damn Stargate SG1! No matter how many times I watch the series I always love it. It’s by far my favorite TV show of all time. I don’t think there is any other show I can watch year after year the same way. Game of Thrones is great, but I don’t watch it over and over the same way.
The accuracy training for Dragon worked finally. I’m down to one or two mistakes per 500 words, and it all seems to be related to me speaking too quickly. I’m having to slow myself down and speak at a more conversational pace. If I speak at a rhythm as if I was telling the story to someone in front of me, there seems to be no errors, other than simple things like were instead of we’re, but I could easily make that mistake myself if I were typing. Simple typos are always going to happen.
14:51 – Went to the bank and refilled the 5 gallon water jug. Time to write.
15:26 – Knocked out another writing sprint, but this one was done via typing, rather than dictation. I think mixing it up like that, might help keep me fresh, and increase my over all output for the day. I usually type these blog posts by hand between my writing sprints, but I think I’ll start typing some of my sprints as well. Hell, I can always type for part of the sprint and then switch to dictation. I already type while dictating to fix any of the errors that occur.
16:01 – Word count goal hit. Took me about three hours, but I also took a break to go to the bank and get water. Probably about 45 minutes. So, I’ll say I hit the goal in 2.5 hours, which is what my goal is anyways. If I did it even faster all the better. I’m going to call the new location a win. I’m going to take a short break and then keep writing to try to make up for lack of words earlier this week.
16:19 – I’ll have to put off writing more until later tonight. Time to start dinner. I’ll lock myself away again after we eat.
19:14 – I’m not going to write any more tonight. I beat my goal for the day, so I’ll take comfort in that accomplishment and raise the bar for myself tomorrow, in an attempt to make up for yesterday.
