Writing Log:
11:34 – Finished my blog post for last week’s recap. I’m taking a few minutes to watch Youtube, and clear my head for my first writing sprint. I’m going to try and write from 12:00 to 16:30, taking 10 minute breaks between scenes. I’m also going to start writing Monday through Friday. My hope is treating the writing as a 9-5 style job, will create a habit and writing will become second nature. Thus allowing me to write more words per week.

Based on the math, I only need 60 hours to write a novel. However, I can’t write for 60 hours straight. I also find it difficult to write for more than an hour at a time without taking a break. Furthermore, I can only write for 3-4 hours before my brain feels like mush, and I’m unable to continue. Now, I think I’ll be able to build up my endurance and eventually be able to write for longer stretches without breaks, and also write more total hours a day.

Basically, if I write for 3 hours a day at my current rate of 1,250 words per hour, I’ll be able to write a novel in 4 weeks. My long-term goal is to work my way up to about 50,000 words a week. I know this will most likely take a few years, and several novels under my belt. For now, I’ll be happy if I can consistently write a frist draft every 4-6 weeks. As long as I publish a novel every 8 weeks, I should be able to earn enough and turn writing into my full-time career.

12:41 – Short scene. I might end up cutting the whole thing during edits, since it’s Kandcie by herself in a room. Not exactly exciting, but it does express the boredom that Kandice is experiencing while waiting. I’ll get feedback from my editor and decide. Since it’s so short, it might be worth keeping.

16:19 – I’ve got to start locking myself away from the family during the day so I can write. I keep getting side tracked with little tasks that need to be done around the house. However, if I don’t start treating my writing time the same way I would working time, I’ll never get the word counts I’m looking for.

17:08 – Staying focused has been difficult to say the least, the past several days. I’m starting to fall behind to the point, that I’m going to miss my deadlines. If I don’t put writing first I’m going to be fucked. I’ll have to lock myself away tonight and hit my word count goals. Word Count is about to become king, and everything I do is going to be about hitting that goal. I need to find a way to separate myself from my family during the day so I can stay focused and productive, that’s all there is to it. Also, cutting off the internet would help get me back into flow quicker after getting distracted.

I’m watching Lucky Number Slevin to relax a bit, while my tea brews. After a caffeine pick me up, I’ll hit the ground running and knock out some more words. I want to write two more scenes before the day is over. If all goes well I’ll hit the third way mark by the end of the day.

22:00 – I’m giving up. The child is still up and running around like her head is chopped off. I’m going to call it a night, and do my best to make up the words tomorrow.

On a positive note, I just finalized my launch strategy and wrote it all out. I’ve got the money set aside, and I’m lining up the beta readers for the paperback ARCs. I’ll be launching the paperback version ahead of the ebook version.
