Week Recap December 17th, 2016

Week Recap December 17th, 2016

Week Recap: I didn’t hit my writing goal for the week, but I started another pass on Aether Walker: Game Changer. I wrote 5,147 words towards the 2nd novel, and it’s now at 26,101 words. This new editing pass is going well, and will make the novel more enjoyable for my readers. Which is why I’m putting it first before continuing the 2nd novel. I want my readers to fall in love with my characters, and the only way that will happen is if the words on the page are clear enough to let the character’s voice’s shine through. With the end of the year coming up, I’ve started to think about how far I’ve come this year, and how far I want to go next year. I’ve never been a big follower of new years resolutions, because when I want to make a change in my life I don’t […]

Editing Log December 17th, 2016

Novel Editing Sprints Breakdown: Total fingers on the keyboard time: 3 hour and 5 minutes. Total words: 16,899. Words per hour: 5,480. Editing Log: 16:15 – Editing is flying by today. I just knocked out an entire chapter in only 11 minutes! Granted it was clean to start with, but still I’m counting that as a win! I’ll hit my goal of finishing this pass by the 23rd. Only down side is I’ve not writing anything on the second novel in the past couple of days. I need to get at least a scene done, to keep the momentum and keep the story fresh in my mind. 21:26 – I use to hate editing. In fact I hated it so much that for years I refused to do it, and that’s one of many reasons it’s taken so long for me to get to this point in my career. I […]

Week Recap December 10th, 2016

Week Recap December 10th, 2016

Week Recap: Last week was a failure. I only wrote 7,819 words towards the 2nd novel of my series. To hit my deadlines I’ll need to bump that up to a minimum of 12,500. I broke down how many words I think I need to write a day to make writing a full-time career, you can read that here. Based on the math, I’ve improved my productivity since the first novel, but I still need to improve more if I want to write fast enough for the market, and thus make a full-time income. Given my growth, I suspect that I’ll be up to the 12,500+ words a week by the end of this novel, but there’s no reason not to push myself now and speed the growth process up a bit. I’m 20,954 words into the novel, or about 30% in. If you like to think of stories in […]

Writing Log December 9th, 2016

Novel Writing Sprints Breakdown:Total fingers on the keyboard time: 54 minutes. Total words: 1,429. Words per hour: 1,587. Writing Log:14:37 – I’ve been extremely lazy the past few days. I’m rather disappointed in myself for wasting time and not making more progress on the novel. I keep reminding myself that I’m wanting to make a full time income from my writing, and the only way to do that is write. I went and looked back at how long it took me to write the first novel of the series, which was 10 weeks at an average of 6,657 words a week, or 951 words a day. Yesterday marked the two week mark of me writing this novel. I started on 11/24/16. I’m at 18,687 words, which averages out to 9,344 words a week, or 1,335 a day. At that rate, I’ve improved by 40%. I keep reminding myself that a […]

Writing Log November 24th, 2016

Today wasn’t the best as far as writing goes. However, the food was awesome I . We decided to say screw it to traditional turkey and made ribs instead. They were fall-off-the-bone tender. Early this morning I knocked out 256 words in about 10-15 minutes, but I can’t be sure because I didn’t log it. Then I wrote a blog post about my first novel being finished. Doing the final past of editing is one of a few reasons I didn’t hit my daily goal.  From 16:08 to 16:17 I wrote 402 words. I’ll note here that I’m using Dragon for the novel. I decided the only way for me to make a fair assessment of the software and if dictation would work for me is if I do an entire project with it. So far, I’m not sure it’s increasing my average word count for the novel. (I’m typing […]

Finished Editing First Novel

Aether Walker: Game Changer is officially done. I got the line edits back a few days ago, and when through them. Is the book perfect? No. Is it of publishable quality? Absolutely.  The novel has a working title of, Aether Walker: Opening Gambit. It’s a direct continuation of book 1. With only four or five days in between the end of book one in the start of book 2. I’m only 2,600 words in so far, but I feel good about this novel. I think having written the first one in the series, the second one will go far faster. The plan is 20,000 words a week. That’s 2,857 words a day. Which further breaks down to about two hours a day of writing, as I can write about 1400 words an hour. I’ve never consistently written every single day. Even when I read the first novel in two months […]

First Use of Dragon Natural Speaking

I’m trying out a new piece of software. Dragon natural speak seems to be working pretty well, but it’s only been a few days. I’ll have to keep checking it out and see how it works all in all. As of right now it’s increaseing my writing speed by, I can’t even count. If I have to, it’s probably something in the realm of a 400% increase. It looks like I’m going to be able to write at well over 4,000 words per hour. However I probably won’t be able to keep that up for a full hour of nonstop writing. Most likely, I’ll write for  5-10 minutes at most. Then have to look and think about what’s happening and continue. With that factored in most likely I will see myself averaging about 3,000 words, maybe 2,500 words, an hour at a time. When i sit down and write. Factoring in […]

Writing Log July 26th, 2016

6:11 – Word count, 0. Just woke up about 10 minutes ago. No coffee yet. I’m going to try writing without it and see what happens. 6:37 – Word count,  371. The power went out on the block. It’s pitch black in the house aside from the glow of my laptop screen. I’ll have to come back to writing after the power comes back on. 9:38 – Word count, 1,454. The power came back on about an hour ago. I’m down to 20 scenes left to write. Total word count is at 57,766. I’m thinking I’ll come in under 75,000 word, but over the initial thought of 70,000. It’s time for some food. I’m not going to do anything but write today, until 17:00. If I stay focused I’ll hit scene 60 before I’m done. I have no idea about a word count. I just want to get down to […]

Aether Walker: Game Changer – Edits

I finalized the contract with my editor on Wednesday. We’ve got a game plan for how the edit rounds will go, and he even agreed to my next novel. Based on what we’ve discussed the official release date for Aether Walker: Game Changer will be November 1st, 2016! (Update this is no longer the release date.) I just bought my domain name, and will be setting up the website over the next week. I’ll also be setting up a news letter for everyone who wants to stay appraised on my novels. I'll make more posts with updates as they happen. Until then, it's back to writing.

Writing Log July 19th, 2016

1:38 – Word count, 0. The hotel server is down. Internet keeps going in and out, and there is a leak in the roof over the front desk. On the plus side I’m by myself tonight. I had to train the new guy last night, which was interesting since he is a reader. However, it meant I was only able to write 386 words. Better than nothing, but a far cry from what I want. Goal tonight is 3,750, and six scenes. Checked the server again, but it’s still down. Still can’t check people in, or run night audit, so the hotel is at a stand still. The GM isn’t returning my texts or phone calls. I’ve done what I can, so I’m setting it aside, and getting back to writing. 3:28 – Word count, 1,464. Second scene done. New podcast episode is out for Science Fiction & Fantasy Marketing. […]
