Week Recap March 4th, 2017

Progress Breakdown: Writing Weekly Word Count – 9,512 (5,642/146% Increase) Editing Weekly Word Count – 12,051 (42,110/78% Decrease) Week Recap: Just hit publish on Project Phoenix #2 Light Speed! I missed my goal of publish on the 4th by 30 minutes. I’ll do better for #3, I’m aiming for Thursday night, Friday morning. Aside from coming in a tad late with the book, I’m very pleased with my performance this week. Assuming I keep improving at my current rate, I’ll be performing where I want to be in 3-4 months. I’m pushing myself to improve by 10% weekly. I know that level of improvement is not sustainable indefinitely, but it is doable for the next few months. I’m planning a major trip at the end of July, and I need to two things to happen before then. 1st, I need my production level up to 30,000 words per week. 2nd, […]

A Month in Review February, 2017

Project Phoenix #1 Jacked In

Progress Breakdown: Writing Word Count – 30,973 (1,106 Daily Word Count) Editing Word Count – 75,151 (2,684 Daily Word Count) Published Titles: Project Phoenix #1: Jacked In Thoughts: February was one of, if not the most productive months I’ve ever had. However, looking back on a month of data, there’s plently of room for improvement. If you’ve been following the blog you’ll know I set weekly goals and keep a close eye on my performance. Taking a step back to look at a larger performance record has allowed me to see trends I can’t see on a weekly level. As such, this will become a new habit for me. At the first of the month, I’ll stop and look at where I’m at, and where I’ve come from. One major change came with publishing Project Phoenix #1. It’s the first part of a serialized novel I’m writing, and so far […]

Week Recap February 25th, 2017

Progress Breakdown: Writing Weekly Word Count – 3,870 (4,625/54% Decrease) Editing Weekly Word Count – 54,161 (39,342/366% Increase) Week Recap: I spent the whole week on my new natural schedule, where I go to bed around 04:00 and wake up between 12:00-13:00. I decided the only way it would be worth the trade-off, is if I saw at least a 30% increase over my past performance. Given the results I’d say I did well over that. However, most of my productivity was in editing. This week I’ll be writing and editing the 2nd installment in Project Phoenix #2. Therefor I’m going to aim to write 10,000 plus words this week. If I manage to do that I’ll count it as a 30% increase for sure. I’m aiming for Project Phoenix #2, to come in around 9,000-9,500 words. Which means I’ll need to edit 18,000 plus words this week, after writing them. […]

Week Recap February 18th, 2017

Progress Breakdown: Writing Weekly Word Count – 8,459 (352/4% Decrease) Editing Weekly Word Count – 14,819 (11,746/382% Increase) Week Recap: My sleep cycle is all out of whack. I’ve found it hard to keep a regular day schedule since I transitioned to writing full-time. In the past I’ve always been a night owl, and it would appear that having the freedom from outside time responsibilities, has resulted in me transition to my college sleep schedule. It’s usually 4 or 5 AM before I fall asleep and as such I’m hard pressed to get out of bed before noon. At which point I make the family lunch, and drink a pot of french pressed coffee. I start work around 2 PM and stop around 6 PM to make dinner. By 9 PM my daughter is asleep and I’m able to edit or read, depending on how my day went. The trouble […]

Week Recap February 11th, 2017

Progress Breakdown: Writing Word Counts: Weekly Total WC – 8,811 (1809/26% Increase) Editing Word Counts: Weekly Total WC – 3,073 Week Recap: 2/5/17 – Writing went well. I’ve started my new series. Having two different stories to write between helps keep the creativity flowing. Since I’m between a plotter and a discovery writer, it’s easier for me to work on different plot issues. The new series should be easier, because I’m reworking a few short stories I wrote and turning it into a serialized series. I’m planning each book to be between 15,000 and 20,000 words. I won’t put the first out until I have the first serialized arch done. I figure a 5 or 6 book series would be ideal. 2/6/17 – Spent the day world building. 2/7/17 – Great fucking day of writing. Hit the half way point of the story and picked out the graphics for the […]

Week Recap January 21st, 2017

Progress Breakdown: Writing Word Counts: Weekly Total WC – 6,154 Editing Word Counts: Weekly Total WC – 14,633 Week Recap: When I sat down to write this blog post, I realized it’s been nearly a month since I did a Week Recap. I feel bad about that. I plan to take my blog in some new directions. However, this Week Recap fits in with that new vision, and also helps to keep me accountable, and my ass in the chair writing, which is the whole goal! If you’ve read the Review post, you’ll know I got an AlphaSmart Neo2 (I’m writing this post on it right now). This is a huge change for me, right up there with getting Dragon Natural Speaking. I’ve logged well over 100 hours training my Dragon, and I’m throwing in the towel. It’s not worth the time and effort to dictate my fiction. However, it’s not […]

Review: AlphaSmart Neo2

This is the first document I made as a test: This is my AlphaSmart Neo2 and so far it seems fucking awesome. However, the keyboard is laid out slightly off center. That drives me nuts! I might need to consider that before posting my review of the product. The screen is large enough to see four lines of text at a time which is nice. In my lap the keyboard is not comfortable at all. At my desk it’s quite nice. The balance is slightly off. The keyboard wobbles ever so slightly as I type. Maybe I can fix it with heat gun. I think the problem is with the plastic being slightly warped possible from transport. Time to test sending the data to a text document. I ate this Scooby-Doo style sandwich, then wrote the review/Free-thoughts. Both events were highly enjoyable.   This is my Review/Free-thoughts while using the AlphaSmart […]

Week Recap December 24th, 2016

Week Recap: This was the hardest week I’ve faced in a long time. I quit smoking Wednesday at 12:03. I still have a half empty pack of cigarettes sitting at my desk, but I’m not going to smoke another cigarette. I’m intentionally keeping them close at hand as a practice of will power. When my cravings get bad I’m able to look at the pack and know I can have a cigarette, but then I remind myself if I do smoke I’ll have to go through withdraw again. The strategy has been working thus far. I managed to write every day, but not the 2,000 words I wanted. I could focus for the first hour or so in the morning when I woke up, but after that the cravings became to intense for me to focus on writing. It’s been hard to creat while my mind is thinking non-stop ‘smoke!’ […]

Writing Log December 21st, 2016

Novel Writing Sprints Breakdown: Total fingers on the keyboard time: 1 hour and 11 minutes. Total words: 1,817. Words per hour: 1,535. Writing Log: 10:03 – I just got to the library and found the right corner, where there is plenty of light, but no one should be able to look over my shoulder while I’m working. Not that someone would try, but the thought it happening would distract me. The chair setup will take a little while to get use to; it has a spinning desk top attached to the left arm of the chair which swings over, but only covers half my lap. However, any negatives aside, the quite atmosphere and lack of distractions should prove invaluable to my productivity. 10:23 – Well it worked for about fifteen minutes, but now there’s an older woman less than two feet away from me looking for books. The feeling of having […]

Writing Log December 19th, 2016

Novel Writing Sprints Breakdown: Total fingers on the keyboard time: 1 hour and 4 minutes. Total words: 1,202. Words per hour: 1,127. Writing Log: 09:35 – No I haven’t been up all night. I actually managed to get my ass out of bed this morning at 8:30, thanks to new habits I’m setting for myself. It was well after 4:00 in the morning, before I went to sleep last night. I suspect I’ll feel tired by the end of the day, but that’s a good thing. I need to go to bed at a decent hour, and quit staying up until all hours of the night. My agenda is quite simple today: write 2,000 words, edit 12,000 words, and post on my blog. The internet is off, and my phone is in the other room, my distractions should be minimal. I’m even on my second cup of coffee, which is […]
