Week Recap December 17th, 2016

Week Recap December 17th, 2016

Week Recap: I didn’t hit my writing goal for the week, but I started another pass on Aether Walker: Game Changer. I wrote 5,147 words towards the 2nd novel, and it’s now at 26,101 words. This new editing pass is going well, and will make the novel more enjoyable for my readers. Which is why I’m putting it first before continuing the 2nd novel. I want my readers to fall in love with my characters, and the only way that will happen is if the words on the page are clear enough to let the character’s voice’s shine through. With the end of the year coming up, I’ve started to think about how far I’ve come this year, and how far I want to go next year. I’ve never been a big follower of new years resolutions, because when I want to make a change in my life I don’t […]

Editing Log December 17th, 2016

Novel Editing Sprints Breakdown: Total fingers on the keyboard time: 3 hour and 5 minutes. Total words: 16,899. Words per hour: 5,480. Editing Log: 16:15 – Editing is flying by today. I just knocked out an entire chapter in only 11 minutes! Granted it was clean to start with, but still I’m counting that as a win! I’ll hit my goal of finishing this pass by the 23rd. Only down side is I’ve not writing anything on the second novel in the past couple of days. I need to get at least a scene done, to keep the momentum and keep the story fresh in my mind. 21:26 – I use to hate editing. In fact I hated it so much that for years I refused to do it, and that’s one of many reasons it’s taken so long for me to get to this point in my career. I […]

Week Recap December 10th, 2016

Week Recap December 10th, 2016

Week Recap: Last week was a failure. I only wrote 7,819 words towards the 2nd novel of my series. To hit my deadlines I’ll need to bump that up to a minimum of 12,500. I broke down how many words I think I need to write a day to make writing a full-time career, you can read that here. Based on the math, I’ve improved my productivity since the first novel, but I still need to improve more if I want to write fast enough for the market, and thus make a full-time income. Given my growth, I suspect that I’ll be up to the 12,500+ words a week by the end of this novel, but there’s no reason not to push myself now and speed the growth process up a bit. I’m 20,954 words into the novel, or about 30% in. If you like to think of stories in […]

Writing Log December 9th, 2016

Novel Writing Sprints Breakdown:Total fingers on the keyboard time: 54 minutes. Total words: 1,429. Words per hour: 1,587. Writing Log:14:37 – I’ve been extremely lazy the past few days. I’m rather disappointed in myself for wasting time and not making more progress on the novel. I keep reminding myself that I’m wanting to make a full time income from my writing, and the only way to do that is write. I went and looked back at how long it took me to write the first novel of the series, which was 10 weeks at an average of 6,657 words a week, or 951 words a day. Yesterday marked the two week mark of me writing this novel. I started on 11/24/16. I’m at 18,687 words, which averages out to 9,344 words a week, or 1,335 a day. At that rate, I’ve improved by 40%. I keep reminding myself that a […]

Writing Log November 30th, 2016

Becoming an Author Writing Log - November 30th, 2016

I put in a full day of writing. As I write this, my brain feels fired (fried, I meant fired). It’s a tad difficult to concentrate. However, that just means I did a good job today and I’m excited to share it. All in all, I had five writings spurts for today.  I woke up, ate breakfast, and was on my computer by 10:12. I started my first writing sprint by 10:20. My total ‘fingers-on-the-keyboard’ write time was 2 hours and 47 minutes. In that time, I wrote 4,152 words. That works out to 1,493 words an hour. Not the best I’ve done, but well above my average of right at 1,000 words an hour. If you’ve been following the blog, then you’ll know I’ve been using Dragon to write this second novel. Today was no differnt, and how I hit these numbers. If we look at total time […]

Aether Walker: Game Changer – Edits

I finalized the contract with my editor on Wednesday. We’ve got a game plan for how the edit rounds will go, and he even agreed to my next novel. Based on what we’ve discussed the official release date for Aether Walker: Game Changer will be November 1st, 2016! (Update this is no longer the release date.) I just bought my domain name, and will be setting up the website over the next week. I’ll also be setting up a news letter for everyone who wants to stay appraised on my novels. I'll make more posts with updates as they happen. Until then, it's back to writing.

Æther Walker: Game Changer Cover

My hands are shaking from a mixture of Death Wish coffee, and the amazing cover I just got in for my novel, Aether Walker: Game Changer. Domi, over at Inspired Cover Designs, did a fantastic job and was extremely helpful throughout the process. If you’ve been following the blog, you know I’ve been a small rut; not putting out the words per day I wanted. The cover art is just the motivation I needed to get my ass in gear. My heart is racing, and it finally feels real. I’ve been in this weird place for a couple months where I’m becoming an author, but not feeling like one. With the cover in, where I can see my name and the title, I feel like an author. I’ll have to get some cards made, so when people ask the annoying proverbial question, “what do you do?” I can answer, “I’m […]
