Week Recap December 10th, 2016

Week Recap: Last week was a failure. I only wrote 7,819 words towards the 2nd novel of my series. To hit my deadlines I’ll need to bump that up to a minimum of 12,500. I broke down how many words I think I need to write a day to make writing a full-time career, you can read that here. Based on the math, I’ve improved my productivity since the first novel, but I still need to improve more if I want to write fast enough for the market, and thus make a full-time income. Given my growth, I suspect that I’ll be up to the 12,500+ words a week by the end of this novel, but there’s no reason not to push myself now and speed the growth process up a bit. I’m 20,954 words into the novel, or about 30% in. If you like to think of stories in […]

Novel Writing Sprints Breakdown:Total fingers on the keyboard time: 54 minutes. Total words: 1,429. Words per hour: 1,587. Writing Log:14:37 – I’ve been extremely lazy the past few days. I’m rather disappointed in myself for wasting time and not making more progress on the novel. I keep reminding myself that I’m wanting to make a full time income from my writing, and the only way to do that is write. I went and looked back at how long it took me to write the first novel of the series, which was 10 weeks at an average of 6,657 words a week, or 951 words a day. Yesterday marked the two week mark of me writing this novel. I started on 11/24/16. I’m at 18,687 words, which averages out to 9,344 words a week, or 1,335 a day. At that rate, I’ve improved by 40%. I keep reminding myself that a […]

Novel Writing Sprints Breakdown:Total fingers on the keyboard time: 1 hour 26 minutes. Total words: 2,680. Words per hour: 1,870. Writing Log:14:36 – I was sick as a dog yesterday. I didn’t wake up today until 13:00. A huge part of me wants to say ‘fuck it’ and go back to bed, but I’ve eaten, taken a shower, and I have coffee, so I should be able to write. Even if it is a bit slower than usual. I’d set a goal of 2,500 words a day for this week. Since I missed yesterday, I’m going to set my daily goal for today at 3,000 words. 15:09 – enough procrastination. I need a new cup of coffee, and then it’s time to start the first sprint. 22:09 – I didn’t get another writing sprint in. I’m going to get sleep and start fresh in the morning. I hit the original […]

Week Recap December 3rd, 2016

I’m not sure if this will continue to be a weekly post, but I wanted to start a week recap, because there were several changes for me this week, and I want them compiled in one place. Most importantly, I’m no longer working a forty hour a week job. I’ll find a part time job, but I’ve reached a point that I won’t need a full time job. Unless my first series flops, and all three books bring in next to nothing. With the launch of book 1 (Aether Walker: Game Changer) planed for March, book 2 to launch 15 days after book 1, and book 3 to launch 30 days after book 2 – I plan to have an income of at least $3,000 a month from my writing by May 2017. I have money set aside, but I will need a 15-20 hour a week job until the books […]

Writing Log December 3rd, 2016

Novel Writing Sprints Breakdown:Total fingers on the keyboard time: 28 minutes. Total words: 959. Words per hour: 2,055. Writing Log:22:19 – I didn’t get everything done today that I wanted, but I did manage to get a solid writing sprint in, and write 959 words. I’ve got writemonkey (link to the website) set back up. I’ll be able to time stamp my blog posts and go back to my old style. I’ve got the second monitor back up and running as well, so that will let me keep these logs while I’m writing, rather than having to switch windows and think about what just happened. In short, my workflow just got easier agian. Now I have no excuses. The new timer structure of writing, is working out great for me. Also, thank you to everyone on twitter for the support and distractions when I need it. My writing sprint was from 14:54 to 15:22. […]

Writing Log December 2nd, 2016

Total fingers on the keyboard wiritng time: 1 hour 17 minutes. Total words written on the novel today: 2,454. Words Per Hour: 1,917. Three major changes today, when it comes to my writing process. First, I adjusted some setting inside my Dragon and ran a major training session last night.  Second, I didn’t start my first writing sprints until 15:05 for #wordmongering. Which I learned about from Ava Jae on her blog. The link is to her post where she descibes the hashtag group. It turns out I might be a better writer in the afternoons. I’ve tried waking up early in the morning between 4:00 and 6:00. I am not a morning person. I use to write late at night. 2:00 worked really well for me becuase there were no internet distractions. Social media is dead that late. The down side was by staying up until 4:00 or 5:00 in […]

Becoming an Author Writing Log - November 30th, 2016

I put in a full day of writing. As I write this, my brain feels fired (fried, I meant fired). It’s a tad difficult to concentrate. However, that just means I did a good job today and I’m excited to share it. All in all, I had five writings spurts for today.  I woke up, ate breakfast, and was on my computer by 10:12. I started my first writing sprint by 10:20. My total ‘fingers-on-the-keyboard’ write time was 2 hours and 47 minutes. In that time, I wrote 4,152 words. That works out to 1,493 words an hour. Not the best I’ve done, but well above my average of right at 1,000 words an hour. If you’ve been following the blog, then you’ll know I’ve been using Dragon to write this second novel. Today was no differnt, and how I hit these numbers. If we look at total time […]

Writing Log November 26th, 2016

From 15:00 to 15:41 I knocked out 711 words. I had to plot as I was writing, and there were lots of distractions. Not the best example of what my Dragon is capable of. Still though, 711 words in under an hour is good. Better than no words From 16:23 to 16:56 I wrote 856 words. This is a better Sprint. I’m still having to train my Dragon. I find that several sentences come out completely different than how I had said them. Sometimes there’s even words that I don’t understand how Dragon would have thought that’s what I said. However, with all that said Dragon is still increasing my writing speed. Over all the day is not what I wanted to make of it. However, I’m going to keep the faith and keep training my Dragon. My hope is that by the end of the month the software will […]
